WHEN four shacks in laapland , kariega caught fire on Wednesday, 14 June, residents decided to salvage what they could find, including soup packets.
Speaking to Daily Kasi News , Kingswell Nkostad (57) said the fire started in one shack and spread to the others. He said the owner of the shack had already gone to work when the incident happened.
“We lost everything, including our documents. We were planning to go back home to Malawi this weekend, but all our things have been destroyed. We don’t know what we are going to do,” said Kingswell.
Another resident who is now homeless, Dumisani Beze (28), said he was not home when fire started. He was heartbroken when he returned to find his shack engulfed in fire and he could not save his personal belongings.
