CHIEFS EDGE STELLIES IN NELSON MANDELA BAY THRILLER

Gqeberha – Kaizer Chiefs have booked their spot in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals after a dramatic 3-1 victory over Stellenbosch FC at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Miguel Inacio’s first-half penalty seemed to have secured a 1-0 win for Amakhosi, but the hosts equalized with just four minutes remaining.

However, controversy struck as Chiefs regained the lead through Pule Mmodi’s contentious goal. The referee consulted with the linesman, who overturned his initial call for a foul on goalkeeper Sage Stephens.

Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker was left fuming after a contentious refereeing decision helped Kaizer Chiefs secure a dramatic victory in their Nedbank Cup quarter-final at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

With the match hanging in the balance, chaos unfolded in stoppage time when Pule Mmodi forced the ball over the line. 

The assistant referee immediately raised his flag, seemingly for a foul on Stellies goalkeeper Sage Stephens. 

But after a discussion between referee Sikhumbuzo Gasa and his assistant, the decision was overturned, and the goal stood – sending shockwaves through the Stellenbosch camp.
