Tensions ran high in Addo over the weekend as revenge attacks claimed the lives of four people and left at least 10 others injured. The violence, which police described as retaliatory, prompted the deployment of additional enforcements to the area.

Acting provincial commissioner Major-General Thandiswa Kupiso swiftly responded to the situation by mobilizing members from specialized units to maintain order and stability in the community. The clashes, which began on Sunday and continued into Monday, were sparked by the murder of a local resident outside a tavern on Saturday.


According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, community members took to the streets and randomly attacked foreigners in the area. “It is reported that community members then mobilised and randomly attacked foreigners,” Nkohli said. The situation has now been brought under control, thanks to the swift intervention of the police.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident, with four counts of murder and 10 counts of attempted murder being probed. Nkohli assured the public that arrests are imminent, and the police are working tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice.
In a bid to restore calm and stability to the area, Kupiso appealed to community leaders to assist in calming the situation. “We urge everyone to remain calm and to allow the police to do their work,” Kupiso said.
