WIG thugs are on the prowl in Motherwell Gqeberha!

While people know they have to hold on to their bags and cellphones, now cops have warned women to hold on to their wigs too. 

According to police spokesman Captain Xoli Mbele, wig snatching is a common trick. 

Mbele has urged women to report the theft so they can send cops to patrol the hot spots

Xoliswa Ndlazi (35), from Zwide, Gqeberha was robbed last Saturday. 

Xoliswa said she had just bought a wig to wear for her brother’s wedding.

“I was so excited and removed my old wig to try the new one.

“While walking to a taxi rank in Zwide , a man just snatched the wig and made a run for it.”

Xoliswa said although people saw what happened, the thug was just too quick for them. 

“I went back to the woman I had bought the wig from but she was gone. I was told she worked with the thugs. 

She said she tried to reach her on her cellphone but it was off.

“That proved she knew something,” said Xoliswa, who paid R400 for the wig

“The other vendors told me after selling you the weave, the woman points you out to her friends who snatch it back.”

A man has been killed after climbing through the sunroof of a moving vehicle to car surf before falling off the roof and breaking his neck in Motherwell, UN2 Eastern Cape.

The horrific 25-second video taken by a passenger in another car shows the soon-to-be victim getting onto the roof of a Volkswagen Polo in Jabavu Street.

He raised himself to his feet and pointed his arms skywards but after just five seconds he fell onto his backside and somersaulted off the back of the car to his death.

The car surfer landed head first and was reported to have broken his neck and died instantly.

Some responded with sympathy, while others said his stupidity cost him his life in over 850 comments on the socials Arrive Alive as the video went viral.

As the man, who is barefoot and wearing white trousers and a maroon shirt, got to his feet on the VW Polo roof, the driver of the vehicle behind him said: ‘I don’t know what this Oke is doing.

‘He’s lost his mind, lost his mind.’

The car surfer then staggers and grabs the side of the roof before tumbling backwards off the rear of the car head first towards the road.

He hits the ground head first with an impact that caused almost certain instant death and those on the Socials quoting local sources said that the victim had snapped his neck.

The driver hoots his horn and says: ‘Ja I was waiting for that. I was waiting for that’.

The body of the man lies unmoving on the road following the sound of the sickening thud when his head hit the ground and the VW Polo comes to a halt thirty yards up the road.

Another person posted: ‘At least he’s not around anymore to pass on his idiocy to his offspring.

On X Thembela khuzani wrote: ‘Yes it was a stupid thing to do but frankly everyone has done something dumb in our youth and fortunately have lived to tell the tale.

‘This youngster’s family are in bits and my sympathy to his family and I pray he rests in peace.’

Kellogs Ngobeni added: ‘His ancestors were calling him and he answered’.

The South African Police Service press office said “ I can confirm the tragic incident that happen in Nu 2 around 15:45. A 27-years old man has been killed after climbing through the sunroof of a moving vehicle to car surf before falling off the roof and breaking his neck. Police are investigating.

A Kariega man arrested for allegedly faking his own kidnapping was released on R7,000 bail on Wednesday.

Xolile Ben Douw, 52, disappeared on April 16 and allegedly led his family to believe he had been abducted, even demanding a R60,000 ransom.

He was found in KwaNobuhle on Saturday and arrested.

“Xolile Douw appeared in the Kariega magistrate’s court on charges of defeating the ends of justice and extortion,” Hawks spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said. on Wednesday afternoon. 

“He was released on R7,000 bail and will  appear in court again on May 23, pending investigations.”

Douw was meant to deliver a lecture at a school on the outskirts of Kariega on the day he disappeared, but failed to turn up.

He was reported missing the next day.

Armand du Preez, a Kariega businessman and chair of Emerging Farmers, who then offered a R20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the abductors, said Douw remained his friend.

A young woman drowned at the Gqeberha harbour on Thursday morning after accidentally driving a new car off a vessel into the sea.

Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the 32-year-old woman had been found trapped inside the vehicle at about 3.45am.

Witnesses said the woman had been working at the vehicle terminal and while driving a Ford Ranger onto the vessel, the vehicle had accelerated and plunged into the harbour, she said.

“The woman could not exit the vehicle, which subsequently submerged and she drowned.

“Her body was retrieved. Her name is being withheld until her next of kin has been informed.”

Janse van Rensburg said Humewood police were investigating the incident.

SOME think it’s bad luck, others say it’s all good . . . and many think it’s just a kitten born with three legs and nothing more.

But Similo Ngxale (60) – who lives in Mdantsane, a kasi outside East London – said he needs to know what it means. His pet cat gave birth to the three-legged kitten and he said he felt sure it had to mean something, especially as 2024 was a year he hated. 

But so far everyone Similo has asked had a different opinion on the matter, leaving him confused.

“I decided to come to the Daily Kasi news and ask DKReaders what they think it means,” said Similo.

He said he was surprised when one of the litter of three his cat gave birth to in early November had only one front leg. The other kittens in the litter were normal.

“Some people say I should kill this cat and her babies and throw it away because they will bring bad luck. 

“Others say I should keep the cat because it’s a symbol of good luck that’s coming,” said Similo, a truck driver from Buffalo City Municipality.

“I’ve never heard of a cat with three legs in my life. I hope there’s someone who can tell me what it all means.”

Similo said he gave the other two kittens to people who wanted pets, and left the three-legged one with its mum. 

“I noticed that this cat liked the kitten with three legs more than the others.”

Similo said 2024 had been a bad year to him. As the only breadwinner in the family, he sends R2 000 each month to his family in the village. 

“On top of that I have to pay more than R1 000 for municipal rates. I also have a son who’s doing grade 12 and he needs R50 every day for transport and lunch. 

“Now my boss doesn’t want to allow me to work overtime so that I can earn extra cash. It seems only other people get to work overtime. That’s why I say I hate this year,” he added. 

“Now I get a cat with three legs! What does it mean? DKReaders please tell me.”

He added that he wouldn’t kill the cats because he’s an animal lover.

WHEN it’s hot, these boys go for a dip in the local stream. 

However, they are swimming in kak as sewage from broken manholes is pouring into the water!

Boys as young as six swim in the stream that runs through Duduza , risking drowning and disease. 

Several manholes along the stream were broken by Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality workers in September 2022 during the search of a five-year-old who fell into a manhole in Holomisa . The boy’s body was found after five days.

One of the boys told Daily Kasi Team  that when the heatwave hits, they have no choice but to swim in the stream. He said he wished the area had a swimming pool. 

“Some of us are good at swimming and have dreams of becoming professional swimmers one day,” he said

Xolisile Menze (34), who lives near the stream, said kids in the area were not as lucky as their peers in KwaNobuhle , who had access to a pool at the Multi purpose Sports Complex even thou is vandalised now.

Menze said residents chased the boys away but they always returned. He said the situation was worrying because the kids could get sick or drown. 

Member of the Mayoral Committee for Public Safety Ndade Mokoena said his office was aware of the matter and would speak to local community patrollers to keep an eye on the stream to avoid fatalities

Hijackers take short cut to their graves…

THE three thugs wanted a nice ride for Weekend!

So they hijacked a silver VW Polo . . .

BUT IT WAS THEIR TICKET TO HELL!

The thugs crashed the 
Polo . . . and two of them died on the spot.

It happened in Addo on Wednesday afternoon.

Addo police spokesman Major Thulani Cushe said Kirkwood cops responded to a hijacking complaint in the Crossmoor area, where a silver VW Polo vehicle was hijacked by three suspects.

“While on their way to the scene, the cops received information about another hijacking incident where the driver of a blue Hyundai was hijacked in Shallcross.

“The description of the car used by the suspects was given to the cops and it fitted the description of the car that was hijacked at Crossmoor by three men,” said Cushe.

He told Daily Kasi News that cops soon found the hijacked VW Polo overturned. Two men inside were dead.

“It is suspected that they were involved in both hijackings and their car was involved in an accident.

“The blue Hyundai was later found in Moses Mabhida area and a 9mm pistol with its serial number filed off was recovered inside the car,” said Cushe.

Cushe confirmed that a third suspect was still at large. EC provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, praised the Addo cops for their quick response and the recovery of the firearm.

One of the dead men was later identified as Mpilo Qukubana (33) of kwaDwesi.

His mum, Mavis Qumbisa, told Daily Kasi News that her son left home in the morning without telling anyone where he was going.

“I received a call at about 3pm telling me to rush to the scene where my son had been involved in an accident.

“When I got there I was told he had already been taken to the Livingston government mortuary,” said Mavis.

She said her son was a good man who survived on piece jobs and said she was not aware her son was involved in crime.

“Mpilo was a temporary worker at a CTM factory.

He was a good man who took care of me,” said Mavis

The stars are aligning for Nelson Mandela Bay singer Jooma Mize, who is set to perform in the Easter Soul Sunday show in Kariega at the end of March before jetting overseas.

The 2020 Idols SA top eight finalist, who is also in filming for a reality TV show to be aired on Showmax, said he was excited to not only perform on home soil on March 31, but to perform at the inaugural Mhlaka Mpiloz festival in New York.

The festival is hosted by a Haitian-American alcohol brand called Crema Alcohol, with Mize set to perform on July 6.

The festival brings African and Caribbean artists together for African and Caribbean people living in New York.

He will then remain in Brooklyn for a while to record further tracks.

While he is not yet permitted to talk about the television show, he said his Easter musical extravaganza would take place at Discomplicated at 46 Cuyler Street.

He will be accompanied on stage by AfroGroove SA and Yanga HappySoul, among other artists.

The show starts at 3pm, with tickets available at the door. 

Mize said he had not given the show a name because he liked to steer away from a theme as this often caused things to become too structured or limiting.

“My set can change midway through a show,” he said. 

“That’s also why I prefer to rehearse more songs than the required number.

“I feed off the energy I get from the audience, so I can easily change the songs I had planned based on the audience’s reaction.

“It’s a pity that until now I have not been able to host a show in the place where it all began, but I am grateful I have finally been given an opportunity,” Mize said.

Having grown up in Kariega, where he attended Muir College Boys High School until grade 8, he later moved to Gqeberha with his family.

He said he carried fond memories of Kariega, where his eagerness to become a musician was born.

“School is essentially where the eagerness to want the whole musician life started.”

He drew inspiration from the musical Bala brothers, who went to the same school as him.

After the Mhlaka Mpiloz show, he planned to record new songs and collaborate with producers from Brooklyn for his single, Sudlala (Do not play).

“There is a DJ I met a few years back who is from Durban but relocated to New York and has been living there for seven years now.

“He established a name for himself and is doing really well that side.

“We have a song together which has grown in popularity and now he really wants to market it.”

Mize said the DJ had called him in the first week of January, asking whether he could come over to perform with him for about a month.

Excited about the opportunity to perform at the festival, he said while he had been to some European countries, this would be his first visit to the US. 

Since  Idols, he had gone on to perform in Dubai, Turkey and Greece, but felt this latest opportunity would bring him closer to reaching his goals.

“There is always that fear of disappearing after a show like Idols.

“I was afraid I might fizzle out to nothing and eventually give up on the whole music thing.

“But over the past three years, things have been moving for me in leaps and bounds.

“I have done things I never thought were on my spectrum of things to do, or things that were available to me.

“This one is really big for me, I have never been to America. I can’t wait to network, and who knows what could happen,” Mize said.

A GOOD time over drinks almost ended tragically when a friend stabbed another.

And now Bongiwe Woza is nursing wounds after her friend allegedly stabbed her four times in Bongweni, Kerkwood on Monday, 05 March .

The 37-year-old said she has never been stabbed before and the pain she felt was terrible. She said her friend, Vuyo Tyebela (35), stabbed her with a knife, but the incident happened so fast she couldn’t run away.

“My only sin was to ask her boyfriend to buy me a Black Label quart. I never thought she’d be jealous because she is my friend,” she said.

Bongiwe said that her friend accused her of trying to steal her boyfriend as she looked like a yellow bone. 

“I will now stay far away from her because she is not comfortable when I am around her and her boyfriend,” she said.

“I am feeling pain. My friend almost killed me,” she said.

Bongiwe said they were drinking together and her friend normally jokes that she will beat her, but she never took it seriously.

She said a man took the knife away from Vuyo during the fight, which saved her life.

“I am still in pain and struggling to do anything at home,” she said.

She said she’s waiting for her friend to apologise.

“We drink alcohol together and spend time together,” said Bongiwe.

She said she won’t open a case against her friend, but is still waiting for an apology from her.

Vuyo said she stabbed her friend because she was angry.

She said her friend also klapped her for no reason.

“I haven’t apologised to her, but will visit her and see how she is doing,” she said.

Vuyo said she felt bad about what she did, but said her friend must stay away from her boyfriend.
