A shocking incident of mob justice unfolded in Dubai,KwaNobuhle near Kariega when a 31-year-old man was severely beaten by the community after being caught with stolen items from a local crèche and rented room.

The suspect had been hired to cut grass on the property and was paid R150 for his work. However, after he left, it was discovered that the crèche and room had been burglarized, with several items missing, including speakers, meat, blankets, a cellphone, cash, and ATM cards.

Nomakhosazana Antoni (45) told Daily Kasi News “Our community is safe because we look out for each other.”

“We will stand together against crime and ensure justice is served.”said Antoni

Residents launched their own investigation and found the suspect with some of the stolen property. Initially, he fled the scene but was later lured to Area 11 Gunguluza under the pretense of being hired for another job. Once there, he was captured by the community, bound with rope, and beaten.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to a call around 8:48 AM about the assault and found the man surrounded by a mob. The suspect admitted to the crime and revealed that he had sold the cellphone and used the stolen cash. The remaining stolen items were recovered, and the suspect was handed over to SAPS for further investigation.

This incident highlights the growing concern of mob justice in South African communities. While the frustration and anger towards crime are understandable, taking the law into one’s own hands can lead to severe consequences and undermine the justice system.

In a shocking display of violence and drama, two women were caught on camera fighting over a man on Nyanda Street, KwaNobuhle, near Kariega on Sunday afternoon. The altercation, which drew a crowd of onlookers, was sparked by a love triangle that quickly turned sour.

According to eyewitnesses, the two women, who were both romantically involved with the same man, got into a heated argument over their shared love interest. The situation escalated quickly, with the women engaging in a physical fight.

The object of their affection, donning a green outfit, was seen fleeing the scene, leaving his two girlfriends to duke it out. When questioned by the Daily Kasi team, he showed little remorse for his actions, stating, “I don’t have time for nonsense. Let them fight over me. I’ll take the win.”

A friend of the women, wearing white shorts, attempted to intervene and separate the combatants. However, her efforts were met with resistance, and she was heard shouting, “Let’s chase that dog and Moer him! We’ll show him flames!”

The incident has raised concerns about the prevalence of violence and toxic relationships in the community. Many have taken to social media to condemn the actions of the women and the man involved, with some calling for greater accountability and respect in relationships.

Nosipho Matyeni (45) said “It’s disturbing to see women fighting over a man who clearly doesn’t respect either of them, “We need to do better as a society and promote healthier relationships.”said Nosipho.

The incident has also sparked a wider conversation about the need for education and awareness about healthy relationships, communication, and conflict resolution.

Xoliswa Vena (30) said “We need to teach our young people that relationships should be built on mutual respect, trust, and communication, not violence and possessiveness.”

Community leader said ” We have to pick up the pieces and wonder what could have been done to prevent such a violent altercation. As for the man at the centre of the controversy, it remains to be seen whether he will face any consequences for his actions. One thing is certain, however: the incident has left a lasting impact on the community and serves as a stark reminder of the importance of promoting healthy relationships and respect for all individuals involved.” Said community leader.

A student party turned tragic in the early hours of Sunday when a taxi crashed into a crowd of youngsters at Nelson Mandela University (NMU), killing a student and injuring 10 other people.

A 24-year-old taxi driver has since been arrested, and his vehicle impounded for further investigation.

Police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge said the incident occurred at NMU’s Summerstrand campus in Protea Road. 

A 22-year-old student was killed. His name has not yet been released.

According to a leaked police report, the critically injured student succumbed to his injuries on the way to Livingstone hospital.

Beetge said it was understood the gathering was a welcoming celebration for first-year students.

“It is alleged that a speeding taxi, a Toyota Quantum, drove into the crowd, killing a 22-year-old male student and injuring 10 others.

“Of the 10 injured transported to hospital, two were in a critical condition, another six in a serious condition, and two others were reported to have minor injuries.

“The driver, a 24-year-old male, was arrested, and the vehicle impounded for further investigation.”

Beetge said a case of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, and driving under the influence was being investigated by the Humewood police.

KwaNobuhle residents are facing a new crisis as the township’s roads deteriorate rapidly, rendering some nearly inaccessible by vehicle. The collapse of the Matanzima Bridge in June has forced motorists to rely on alternative routes, which are now falling apart.

Despite efforts to clear a detour gravel road, Nomakhwezana Road has become the primary entry and exit point for the township. However, the increased traffic has taken a devastating toll on the road’s condition.

Residents and motorists are growing increasingly frustrated with the situation, citing concerns over safety and the economic impact of the deteriorating roads.

Noluvuyo Mafanya (34) Told Daily Kasi News “The roads are becoming impassable, and it’s only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt,”

“We urge the authorities to intervene and provide a permanent solution to this crisis.”said Mafanya

The collapse of the Matanzima Bridge has not only disrupted transportation but also affected local businesses and residents’ daily lives.

Businesswoman Thandiswa Ntshinga.(56) Told DK Team “We are struggling to access basic services and conduct our daily business due to the poor state of the roads,”

“We need urgent attention to this matter to prevent further suffering.” Said Ntshinga

The municipality has promised to address the issue, but residents are skeptical about the pace of progress.

Ward Councillor Mzwandile Macingwane “We have been promised repairs and maintenance, but we are yet to see any meaningful action, ”

“We will continue to push for urgent intervention to restore our roads and ensure the safety and well-being of our residents.”

As the situation continues to deteriorate, residents are left to wonder when they will see relief from the crumbling roads and the hardships they bring.

The Benelwa family, who tragically lost their previous home to a floods, were handed over the keys to their new home in KwaNobuhle, Duduza near Kariega on Thursday 06 March.

Mr. Mpengesi in partnership with the Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements.

The ceremony was attended by Eastern Cape MEC for Human Settlements, Ms. Siphokazi Mani-Lusithi, highlighting the significance of this initiative.

Moved by the family’s story, Mr. Mpengesi mobilized Chippa Holdings’ sub-company, SQT Civil, to rebuild their home, ensuring they have a dignified place to call their own.

Orlando Pirates returned to winning ways in the Betway Premiership title race with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Chippa United at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Buccaneers, smarting from their disappointing loss to Marumo Gallants FC, rang the changes with goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi replacing the suspended Sipho Chane, while Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Siyabonga Ndlozi earned their first starts under coach Jose Riveiro.

Riveiro, back on the bench after serving a suspension, saw his team make a promising start, with countless shots rained down on the Chippa United goal.

However, the Chilli Boys provided a big scare when a counter-attack released Giovanni Philander, who threatened to upset the Pirates’ applecart.

Despite the scare, Pirates maintained their pressure and eventually broke the deadlock to claim all three points and get their title challenge back on track.

EMAGALENI SHOOTING LEAVES COMMUNITY REELING

A senseless killing has sent shockwaves through Emagaleni after a man was brutally gunned down in broad daylight.

The incident occurred on Khosane Street, Extension 4, near the Park , leaving residents stunned and terrified.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as “chaotic” and “horrific,” with the victim reportedly succumbing to his injuries shortly after the attack.

Nosizwe Langbooi (43), told Dk news team “I was just walking down the street when I heard the shots. It was like something out of a movie.”

“I saw the victim fall to the ground. He was bleeding profusely. It was a horrific sight.” said Nosizwe

Another eyewitness who doesn’t want to be identified said “The shooters were ruthless. They didn’t even try to hide their faces. It was like they didn’t care who saw them.”

I was in shock. I didn’t know what to do. I just stood there, frozen in fear.”

The community is still in shock. We can’t believe something like this happened in our neighborhood.”

Police have launched an investigation into the shooting, but no arrests have been made yet.

The community is still reeling from the trauma, with many calling for increased police presence and action to curb the escalating violence in the area.

As the investigation continues, residents are left to pick up the pieces and wonder when the bloodshed will end.

Assemblies of God Church Members Hold Hilltop Prayer Session Seeking God’s Intervention.

Kariega – In a bid to combat the escalating crime rate in KwaNobuhle, the Assemblies of God Church recently organized a hilltop prayer session next to the Laetitia Bam Day Hospital.

The event, which took place on Sunday 02 March , saw church members and a few community members come together to pray for the residents of KwaNobuhle.

Pastor Mthuthuzeli Price of Assemblies of God , who led the prayer session, emphasized that it’s time for God to take control over Kariega.

“We are tired of the crime and violence that has plagued our community for far too long,” he said. “We believe that God is the answer to our problems, and we are seeking His intervention to bring peace and safety to our residents.”

” We trust that God will hear our prayers and bring transformation to our community” said Pastor Prince

Sister Busisiwe Sofute said ” “God revealed the hilltop to me, and I felt compelled to explore the area, sensing a divine purpose awaiting me there.”

“Prayer is not just about asking for things, but about becoming the person God wants us to be.”
